The creation of Cam resulted from the coordination of different departments belonging to several power distribution companies, and from various associations and mergers between companies. As a result of efforts to create synergy within Enersis - the business holding to which it belongs – the company was restructured and consolidated in the year 2000 as a specialized multinational group active in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Peru.

In Chile, the company is a Society of Limited Responsibility Company that started out in 1988 as Distribuidora de Productos Eléctricos, DIPREL S.A., a company oriented to the provision of electric services. Towards the end of 1999 its name was changed to Compañía Americana de Multiservicios, and in January 2002 it merged with Compañía Americana de Multiservicos Uno Limitada, ex Ingeniería e Inmobiliaria Manso de Velasco S.A.  to enhance and consolidate his presense and competitivenesswith a view to strengthening its market share and competitive capacity, in Chile and the rest of Latin America.
